How to Join the Team

Join the Team

We are always in need of drivers with their own vehicles to help us continue our work and expand our coverage within the area.

We offer you a chance to help out communities at times when they need assistance. With this offer, we will also give you training with the opportunity to increase your competency at a wide variety of skills, such as offroad driving, first aid, winching and communications. When you join the group, you become part of a community of people that are always here to help out in any way they can.

You do not need to have a heavily modified vehicle to become a responder; All kinds of 4x4 are welcome, and this diverse range of vehicles gives us greater versatility. The key parts of being a responder is being able to drive to the best of your abilities in demanding conditions whilst keeping calm and professional.

There are some items of equipment you should carry with you to keep you and your vehicle safe, and to ensure you are able to complete the task in hand. We provide a list, but most items are things you should carry with you when venturing out in winter weather anyway.

We do ask that our members ensure that they are covered for volunteer driving, and the government has advised insurance companies that it should not cause any cost increase. Additionally reasonable expenses are often refunded to responders when on active duty with user bodies.

If you do not have a four wheel drive, fear not!

We are always keen to boost our numbers within the command and control element of the organisation. If you don’t have a 4x4, but have a computer and a telephone at home you have everything you need to become a part of the control team, taking in calls from user organisations and dispatching our responders to jobs throughout an incident.

If you would like to receive an application form, please contact us on info@cu4x4r.co.uk and we will guide you through the joining process.
